At the George Charles Secondary School we try to offer a broad range of subjects so as to provide students with choice in the skill areas that they may wish to work or study in the future.

To begin with and to lay a solid foundation, upon entry into Form 1, all students are exposed to the Lower School curriculum. Every student studies a program consisting of Mathematics, English Language, English Literature, Social Studies, Integrated Science, Spanish, French, Health & Family Life, Physical Education, Theatre Arts and Design Technology (comprising Food &Nutrition, Home Management, Clothing & Textiles, Visual Arts, Technical Drawing and Building Technology). This program continues into Form 2 and then in Form 3 two additional subjects, Business Studies and Electronic Document Preparation & Management (EDPM), are introduced. Remedial support is available in the areas of Mathematics and English throughout these years.

At the end of Form 3, following a period of careers counseling and advisement, students make their Subject Options Choices and select the subjects that they will study to the CXC CSEC and/or CVQ standard during Form 4 and Form 5.

The Upper School curriculum consists of a core of compulsory subjects comprising CSEC Mathematics, CSEC English A, CSEC Social Studies and Health & Family Life. Then students opt for an additional four (4) subjects, one from each of the following option groups:

Option A

Agricultural Science
Food & Nutrition
Integrated Science

Option B

Office Administration
Principles of Business
Physical Education
Visual Arts
Building Technology
Theatre Arts
Jewellery Production

Option C

Office Administration
Principles of Business
Integrated Science
Fabric Design
Physical Education
Technical Drawing
EDPM

Option D

Office Administration
Principles of Business

Students are able, therefore, to choose a variety of subjects to suit their own interests or aptitude and at the beginning of Form 4 every student is enrolled into a program leading towards examinations in seven CXC CSEC and/or CVQ subjects.
